I too felt like this movie showed the importance of a father in the family. I rather felt as though this child was emotionally stunted by the lack of "family environment". I first saw it in "The Weekly Reader" which was my 4th grade book order form. I was immediately attracted to the cover and I remember receiving it and taking it home to read. About 38 years later I reread it before taking a trip to Barbados which was all along inspired by Kit's description. Barbados is now my favorite place on earth. I loved this book.
